Events - 2024

The Fiber Art Studio Tour (FAST) is a group of fiber artists and farmers creating colorful yarns, rovings and many fibery finished goods. FAST artists are located in Maryland, but each artist is at their own locale and open their studios, farms & shops in unison once monthly - on Saturdays. (Withers Wool and Farm is open every Thursday thru Saturday 10 to 3. On the FAST sponsored days, we are open until 4.) Upcoming FAST days in 2024 are 18 May and 8 June. Classes and Workshops

Some specific classes with dates are noted below. Classes/workshops that can be taught include Needle Felting (with the Felt Loom), Wet Felting, Beginning Spinning, Art Yarn Spinning, Carding (using a drum carder), and Fiber Preparation. If you are interested in taking a class, please fill out the registration form and we will get back to you to coordinate a date/time for you and/or your group. . If you are interested in taking one of the specific classes noted below, note the class and date when you fill out the registration form.

Beginning Spinning class will be held Saturday 22 June 2024 from 2 to 4 at Withers Wool and Farm

Learn about the parts of a spinning wheel and the basics of spinning singles. We will also go over how to ply and finish a skein. Either bring your spinning wheel or use one of ours. (If you need a spinning wheel provided, please note that when you fill out the Class Registration Form.) Roving will be included as part of the class price. ($50 for the two hour class.)

Shawl Workshop using the Felt Loom will be held on Saturday 25 May 2 to 4 at Withers Wool and Farm

Withers Wool and Farm has a Felt Loom that allows the rapid creation of a variety of innovative products: shawls, mats, bolts of cloth, coasters and art work - to name just a few of the items that can be created on the loom. Pictures of a variety of projects created on the felt loom follow. The cost of a workshop is $25 for a person plus materials. A workshop will take about 2 hours.

“Painting with Wool” workshop will be held Saturday 20 July 2024 from 2 to 4 at Withers Wool and Farm

The object of this workshop is to create a work of art using wool (and mohair) as the medium and needle felting as the technique; the felt loom will be utilized. The session will briefly go over the various tools and materials, color theory, and composition basics. The cost of the workshop is $25 + the cost of the fiber. An example of what can be developed is shown below.

Changing Seasons

The base is composed of batts run thru the Felt Loom. Detail was added by needle felting by hand with a final run thru the Loom to lock everything down. Finished by trimming the edges with pinking shears. 

Art Yarn Spinning class will be held Saturday 8 April 2023 11 to 1 at Withes Wool and Farm

Completed. This will be offered again. (You can request a one-on-one class for you and/or your group.) The description is left below for future edification.
