Summer on the Withers Wool Farm

The last month has been pretty busy on the farm. I have been spinning yarns, creating new yarn techniques, dyeing yarn and mohair locks, weaving, finishing and publishing patterns, as well as teaching.

Animal husbandry is probably the most time sensitive and consuming part of the work here on the farm. All of the kids and lambs have been born, but it is super important to check them regularly during the hotter months because they are most susceptible to parasites at this time. They can be standing and looking good one day and gone the next. This past weekend, I sheared a yearling doe, ear tagged the last three kids (check out how cute the mini tags are), ran all the sheep and does in for Famancha eye checks and collected stool samples to double check - since great looking eyes are not always the best health indicator. In our case, several that we might have skipped treating, really needed it.

I am adding classes and groups to my class and event pages on my website: www.witherswool.com. Upcoming will be classes on freeform lace knitting, freeform knit and crochet, Nuno felting a shawl and drop spindling. I would love you to sign up/schedule classes using the form on my classes page. I am available during the week (except for Mondays) for alternative dates. Groups are great. Ask about a free tour of the farm and fiber processing in the barn. Children are welcome along with adult supervision.

My latest design - the Slip Stitch Cowl is available on my Etsy shop. www.witherswool.Etsy.com.

I currently have four gorgeous white yearling bucks ready for breeding. Please email me if you are interested. I have a few color carriers. Gorgeous white genetics.
